History:

In the early 1990’s, a local martial arts instructor hoping to recruit students to his local studios offered Tae Kwon Do beginner’s courses through the HMI Wellness program.

That program ended in 1995, but one year later Tae Kwon Do was once again available through HMI Wellness with Master Instructor Brady Guidry offering free weekly classes. Mr. Guidry had set a timeline for himself. He would teach for six months and then assess whether or not the class was working out to his satisfaction. If not, he would discontinue teaching the martial arts.

During that initial six months several students came and went. Ultimately there emerged a core group of nine people committed to completing the program; none wanted to be the first to drop out of the class. In January 2001 that core group received their 1st Dan Black Belts. A few months later they formed a structured association for Martial Artists called the Legacy Tae Kwon Do Association. To honor Mr. Guidry, this group of instructors is dedicated to developing a legacy of Martial Arts teaching and instruction, inspiring students to inspire others.

Tae Kwon Do:

The Legacy Tae Kwon Do Association is committed to traditional training in the Martial Arts in a non-profit atmosphere.

The philosophy is that Tae Kwon Do should be passed on from Instructor to Student rather than sold to a customer as a commodity.

Students of the Legacy Group learn a “code of ethics” that consist of Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit, all while training mind and body to defend ones self if needed. These five values are known as Tenets.

The idea of training the spirit, mind and body helps the student empower themselves and gain confidence for their daily lives.

The Legacy Group is headed by a Certified Master Instructor. Anyone who teaches for us must complete an Instructor Training Course that includes an internship with a certified Instructor before certification.

Self Defense & Self Awareness:

The Legacy self defense class is a program that focuses on knowledge and education, with some basic disengagement and escape methods taught.  The philosophy behind the training in this class is to help a person prevent/avoid a potentially dangerous encounter, based on understanding and awareness.

Who is this class intended for? Anyone who wants to learn ways to be safe, including children over 12 years, mothers & daughters, work teams, church organizations, and college students.

The instructor for this class is Master Brady R. Guidry. With 30 years experience, he is a 7th degree Master in Korean Tae Kwon Do.  He has been teaching since 1982 and has been teaching self defense and women’s self defense courses since 1987.

Classes and times can be tailored to the needs of each client. The average seminar is 4 hours in length, but an abbreviated course can be done in as little as 90 minutes (or over a lunch hour).  A minimum of 8 participants is required.

Contact us for more information on organizing a seminar for your group.
